SUMMARY:Climate Salon: Tough Tech Meets Climate
DESCRIPTION:It’s hard to build a company. It’s difficult when you’re building a physical product or hardware. And it’s really tough to scale. We hear time and again that for startups at the intersection of climate and other sectors\, internal factors like getting the tech to work seem challenging\, but its external factors — like regulations\, supply chain\, or stakeholder pushback — that are make or break. \nFor this Climate Salon\, we’re teaming up with The Engine to discuss what it takes to enable more hardware startups to scale\, faster. We’ll look at topics that cut across climate and other sectors: \nAdvancing biotech & human health \nDecarbonizing heavy industry \nManufacturing alternative fuels \nBuilding critical infrastructure \nDesigning efficient compute \nThank you to MassMutual Ventures’ Climate Tech Fund and MassCEC for their generous sponsorship! \nAbout our sponsors: \nMassMutual Ventures (MMV) is a multistage global venture capital firm managing over $1 billion of investment capital with teams based in Boston\, Singapore\, and London. Our $150 million Climate Technology Fund invests in Series A and B software and hardware companies in North America developing solutions related to Climate Intelligence\, Sustainable Cities\, and Clean Power. Our sole limited partner is MassMutual\, a Fortune 500 financial services firm with $500 billion in assets under management and a commitment to transition to a net zero investment portfolio. Our connection to MassMutual gives MMV’s portfolio companies access to a unique set of assets and capabilities within the firm\, including a large real estate portfolio\, renewable energy assets\, and an internal network of later-stage equity and debt funds. \nThe Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) is the state’s economic development agency for clean energy and climatetech. MassCEC is dedicated to accelerating the growth of these industries across the Commonwealth to help meet climate goals\, create jobs\, and deliver long-term economic growth. We offer grants\, flexible equity and debt investments\, and other support for climatetech companies from their earliest stages through demonstration and commercial deployment of their technologies.

SUMMARY:Rethinking Energy Savings: Exploring the Shift from Estimated to Data-Driven Approaches with Smart Meter Insights
DESCRIPTION:Moderator: Lark Lee\, Tetra Tech \nSpeakers: \nAdam Grant\, NV Energy\nChris Pollow\, Idaho Power\nCarmen Best\, Recurve\nGarry Jones\, Oncor \nAs energy efficiency becomes integral to the grid reliability conversation and advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) rolls out across the country\, policy makers\, regulators and administrators are assessing how to build trust in energy savings and demand reductions. Questions include: How reliable are current deemed savings? Can programs move from a deemed savings approach to a measured model? Are certain program types better suited to AMI measured or deemed savings? Moderated by a subject matter expert to foster lively discussion\, panelists with direct experience discuss their perspectives on the evolution of the use of AMI meter data and deemed savings. \nLearning Objectives: \n-Explain the differences between deemed savings and measured savings approaches in the context of AMI deployment and energy efficiency programs. \n-Evaluate the suitability of various energy efficiency program types for either deemed or measured savings models using real-world examples discussed by panelists. \n-Develop a policy recommendation framework that integrates AMI data to enhance trust and reliability in energy savings for utility programs.
