SUMMARY:BU IMAP's Corporate Carbon Risk in Utilities
DESCRIPTION:What is the risk associated with carbon targets? \nThis research project will help investors determine the risk associated with corporations achieving their future carbon targets.\nAs corporations and investment firms both commit to targets for reducing their carbon emissions\, there is growing desire to understand the risk associated with these future target statements. Whether or not a firm achieves its emissions targets can not only place its reputation at risk\, but also that of those along it’s supply chain\, including their investors. Current and future policies aimed at pricing climate externalities\, mean that corporate climate performance can have a material impact on financial performance. Yet\, the lack of reliable metrics to capture these risks pose severe challenges. This project aims to develop a novel methodology to predict the likelihood of achieving future corporate carbon targets. It will also publish an open database of the resulting risk measures for those companies that are  analyzed.

SUMMARY:NECEC's Emerging Trends Series: Decarbonizing Building Heating
DESCRIPTION:One of the toughest barriers to achieving net zero is how to decarbonize the thermal side of energy production (e.g. building heating). Electrification with heat pumps has been proposed as a broadly applicable solution\, and we are starting to see significant heat pump deployment. However electrification may not be a viable solution in every case\, and we may need to consider other pathways like geothermal\, RNG and/or green-hydrogen based solutions. \nAt this event NECEC will convene leaders in the built environment along with technology experts and developers to discuss the pros and cons of each solution. This will cover a range of low carbon options utilizing many technologies such as (but not limited to) Combined Heat and Power (CHP) and District Energy. Participants will also hear from local community representatives about their challenges and which solutions might deliver the best results for EJ communities

SUMMARY:NECEC/AEG Clean Transportation Summit
DESCRIPTION:The transportation sector accounts for 42% of the greenhouse gas emissions in the Northeast U.S.\, making it the single largest contributor to the region’s carbon footprint. While cleaning up the transportation sector is a priority for states in the Northeast\, it will require a massive amount of new infrastructure deployment and extensive retrofits to existing infrastructure in order to transform it. NECEC and AEG will convene leaders from the public and private sectors across the Northeast to share lessons learned\, pain points and successes to build consensus on how we can wrap our arms around the enormous task of building a clean transportation sector. In particular\, we will look at the recent plans made by all states for public EV charging stations on Interstate highways and what infrastructure (charging and other technologies) is needed for both public and private entities and heavy duty electric truck fleets. \nWe also will delve into the community level perspective to assess how well regional plans address local needs and how to ensure this mass transition is done equitably.

SUMMARY:ISO New England Future Grid Reliability Phase 1 Public Meeting
DESCRIPTION:On Friday\, October 21 at 10:00 a.m.\, ISO New England will host a virtual briefing to present its recently released 2021 Economic Study: Future Grid Reliability Phase 1. The study evaluates how a 2040 grid could perform with a shift to largely renewable resources and a substantial increase in demand associated with electrification of the heating and transportation sectors. \nThe briefing is intended to make the findings of this report available to any interested members of the public. The session will be recorded and posted after the event for the convenience of those who cannot join on the date of the briefing. Please see instructions below on how to register and obtain information to access the virtual meeting. The audience will have opportunities to submit questions via chat during the virtual session. \nIn addition\, a document summarizing the findings of the study was recently posted to the ISO website. \nBackground \nThe study investigates several potential scenarios for a future grid\, developed by stakeholders. The resulting analysis produced takeaways in the areas of energy adequacy\, resource and demand flexibility\, and resource mix diversity that may help inform decision making as the region continues to move towards a transformed grid. The briefing\, held via WebEx\, is free and open to the general public. Registration is required to obtain the information needed to log into the webinar. \nThe final report\, 2021 Economic Study: Future Grid Reliability is available on the ISO’s website and a short summary is available on the ISO’s Newswire. A summary document is also available. \nIn 2020\, regional stakeholders requested the study to assess and discuss the future state of the regional power system in light of current state energy and environmental policies. Beginning in April 2020 and culminating in March 2021\, the ISO met regularly with state and industry stakeholders to discuss and define a scope of work for the initiative. \nThe 2021 Economic Study: Future Grid Reliability evaluates the operational and reliability challenges of a future grid where supply resources are largely renewable and demand has increased substantially due to electrification of the heating and transportation sectors. \nThe October 21 briefing will highlight the findings of the study\, including the operational and reliability challenges that were identified and will need to be addressed in the future grid\, and possible ways to meet those needs. \nRegistration \nTo register for the briefing\, please visit ISO-TEN\, the online registration site for the ISO New England Training and Events Network. Information to access the webinar will be sent to those who register through ISO-TEN. If you are new to ISO-TEN\, you will need to click the button to Register for an Account. There is no charge to set up an account. You will need to provide contact information (so we can send you information for your event) and establish a password. \nPlease contact ISO New England’s External Affairs team if you have any questions.

SUMMARY:NECA 2022 Fuels Conference
DESCRIPTION:Energy Security\, Price\, and Decarbonization: Is This the Winter of Our Discontent?\nWhen Mark Twain reportedly observed that history does not repeat itself\, but if often rhymes\, he may have been speaking about the state of the fuel supply situation in New England.  Recent events and price shocks have drawn renewed attention to the uncomfortable reality facing the region: it is energy-insecure during extreme weather conditions.  This vulnerability is a feature\, not a bug\, as these challenges have been the subject of numerous stakeholder discussions\, meetings and proposals for over a decade.  Now\, with Winter 2022-2023 only a few months away\, and with several of the region’s states pursuing ambitious decarbonization goals\, curtailments and service interruptions are no longer remote possibilities.  Join NECA on Thursday\, September 29\, 2022\, at the NECA Fuels Conference\, for an informative and engaging discussion with industry experts and representatives for their perspectives on the current situation\, and what it means for the region for both this winter\, as well as for the future.

SUMMARY:EBC 3rd Annual Connecticut Offshore Wind Conference
DESCRIPTION:This EBC 3rd Annual Connecticut Offshore Wind Program will include experts in the offshore wind energy industry who are responsible for advancing Connecticut’s offshore wind industry\, growing the State’s economic development opportunities\, recruiting new businesses\, and training workforce for clean energy jobs. We will learn how offshore wind energy is advancing from the State of Connecticut\, seCTer (Southeastern Connecticut Enterprise Region). seCTer is a finalist in Economic Development Administration (EDA)’s Build Back Better Regional Challenge! leading a coalition of economic development partners who are competing for up to $100 million to supercharge seCTer’s economy and the local\, regional\, and global offshore wind energy supply chain. \nYou will learn about lessons learned on legal strategies and best practices for consultants to build consensus with project stakeholders for the approval of State of Connecticut environmental permits based on experience with offshore wind projects. This short course will help to reduce the risks of permit delays with detailed record keeping practices\, and help you meet your project schedules. Strategies for permitting specialists to effectively defend permits from appeals will be reviewed. \nWe will report on progress on the Revolution Wind and Park City Wind farm and port developments. Revolution Wind\, a joint project between Ørsted and Eversource Energy\, includes 304 MW of renewable electricity for Connecticut and an estimated $77.5 million in port improvements in New London. Hear from the Connecticut Port Authority (CPA)\, the state’s quasi-public agency responsible for promoting and coordinating the development of the state’s ports and maritime industry and joint venture partners Ørsted and Eversource who are redeveloping the State Pier into a state-of-the-art port facility open for business in 2023.

SUMMARY:NEWIEE & CPES: Meeting CT's New Carbon-Free Power Goals: What's the Role for Peaker Plants?
DESCRIPTION:[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1661210618080{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]\nJoin the New England Women in Energy and the Environment (NEWIEE) and the Connecticut Power and Energy Society (CPES) for our eighth annual joint event on Thursday\, September 22! This panel discussion will surround peaker plants and their role as Connecticut works towards a carbon-free future. \nPeaker plants serve a unique role in our current grid by providing key reliability services. However\, many peakers emit pollutants at a higher rate than baseload plants. The majority are located in communities with a higher percentage of low-income households\, and peakers disproportionately impact communities of color. As Connecticut acts on its commitment to a decarbonized energy future\, what are our alternatives for filling the role currently played by fossil peakers? What are the business\, policy\, infrastructure\, market and equity pieces that need to fall into place to make this transition? Our panelists are all regional leaders who have been actively tackling these questions. \n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”20px”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1661211163387{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]\nPanelists\n\nAlicia Barton\, Chief Executive Officer at FirstLight Power\nTracy Babbidge\, Chief of the Bureau of Air Management at the CT DEEP\nKatherine Rougeux\, Business Development Manager at the New York Power Authority\nSharon Lewis\, Executive Director at the CT Coalition on Environmental & Economic Justice\n\nModerated by:\n\nAnne George\, VP of External Affairs at ISO New England and former Connecticut DPUC Commissioner\n\n[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_separator color=”custom” el_width=”30″ accent_color=”#189c8e”][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1661210861421{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]\nIn Person & Virtual Event at UCONN School of Law \n[/vc_column_text][mk_button size=”large” url=”https://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/eventReg?oeidk=a07ejc7f35040ddceca&oseq=&c=&ch=” target=”_blank” align=”center” button_custom_width=”350″]Register Here[/mk_button][vc_empty_space][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text disable_pattern=”false” align=”center” css=”.vc_custom_1661211570590{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]\nSponsored by: \n[/vc_column_text][mk_clients style=”column” column=”1″ count=”1″ autoplay=”false” clients=”8867″][/vc_column][/vc_row]
