SUMMARY:NEECE22: Demystifying Decarbonization
DESCRIPTION:28th Annual New England Energy Conference and Exposition (NEECE22): Demystifying Decarbonization\nThis year’s joint regional energy conference: The New England Energy Conference and Expo (NEECE22) will take place in person* in Worcester\, MA on May 17-18. NEECE22 will kick off the event with various networking options on May 17 and meet at the AC Hotel by Marriott on May 18 for a day filled with substantive panel discussions focused on demystifying the Northeast’s journey toward decarbonization. \nIn 2022\, we continue to see states in the Northeast push forward with their clean energy goals. NEECE22 will provide an update of where we are now and the lessons we can learn from the development of clean resources like solar\, offshore wind\, fuel cells and battery storage. However\, it’s not all smooth sailing\, and our panelists will explore the impact of future development of the transmission system in achieving the states’ goals. This must-attend conference will take a deeper dive into electric grid planning and the outlook of our gas distribution network. You will hear about the state of the industry with renewable fuels as we unpack buzzwords and concepts like green gas and hydrogen and explore the potential opportunities for cleaner power. We have designed panels to discuss the end-user perspective\, too. With advanced metering being key to a modern grid\, how can companies leverage big data to achieve better product options for customers? Whether you are new to the clean energy space or are looking to catch up with your energy industry colleagues\, this is the one conference in 2022 that you don’t want to miss!

SUMMARY:WEST's Career Growth Spotlight - How a great manager can support your career aspirations
DESCRIPTION:There is collective recognition that managers can have an outsized impact on their employees’ daily satisfaction and retention. In fact\, it is often said that “People do not leave bad jobs; they leave bad managers.” We have all heard stories about the impact of toxic and/or ineffective bosses. \nPerhaps less frequently discussed are great bosses. What makes a boss extraordinary? How do talented managers boost their team member’s careers\, confidence\, and/or opportunities? How can you identify one of these unicorns when you have the opportunity to select a future manager? In the absence of a supportive manager\, how can you leverage other relationships to enable your career growth? The panelists will address these questions and more as they reflect on formative experiences in their own careers. The event will be moderated by Laurie Bohn\, a leadership development professional\, founder of TalentVivo and WEST Advisory Board member. \nWhether you seek perspective on your current environment\, want to understand what to look for in a future manager\, or you are looking to refine your leadership philosophy\, we hope you’ll join WEST on April 26th for this thought-provoking discussion. \nPanelists Include:\n– Heike Keilhack\, CSO\, Ribon Therapeutics\n– Kristine McKinney\, Executive Director\, Moderna Genomics\n– Mariana Nacht\, CSO\, Logic Bio

SUMMARY:NECEC's Strategic Partner Network Grid Modernization Summit
DESCRIPTION:Across the Northeast states have been advancing the electrical grid to handle the influx of dynamic and distributed supply from renewable energy sources and an increasingly dynamic load driven with the rise of electric vehicle charging\, energy storage and heat pumps. \nStates have set aggressive goals to achieve net zero emissions and high levels of clean energy. Now\, state regulators need to direct the utilities to upgrade the electric distribution networks to maximize the production of a safe\, equitable\, reliable\, resilient\, affordable and increasingly sustainable electric grid supply for the benefit of all. Several questions have risen to the top in the debate on the best way forward: \n\nIs there software technology that can reduce the capital outlay effectively?\n\n\nDoes this software really help the Utilities or not?\n\n\nWho is best placed to test the deployment of these technologies\, and who can vet the effectiveness\, affordability and pragmatism of emerging utility proposals or vendor claims?\n\nNECEC will convene leaders from the public and private sector on April 14 to examine the challenges and opportunities this system upgrade presents \nNECEC will start with a Keynote from MassCEC sharing the output of recent workshops on best practice approaches to planning electric distribution network upgrades.

SUMMARY:WEST's Engineering Art
DESCRIPTION:Experience the Art of Women in Science and on Broadway\nAttend a virtual STEAM (Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, the Arts\, Mathematics) series\nEnjoy a unique Broadway experience exploring the intersection of science and art. This 3-part series is different than our usual WEST events in that we will watch Broadway stars perform and explore the parallels between artistic and scientific processes of creation and innovation. We have an opportunity to explore the challenges women face in their fields through the lens of Broadway performances. True to our mission to inspire\, we will hear from compelling keynote speakers during each session. \nRadioactive\, A musical about Marie Curie\nParticipants will get a sneak peek of scenes and songs from the Marie Curie-themed musical Radioactive by Will Reynolds and Eric Price. You will discover the parallels in the creative process between the artists who create musicals about scientific historical figures and the scientists inspiring their work. The creators of this musical will speak about their research of science in writing the play and how these two worlds have combined to make a musical. These creatives will discuss the challenges of bringing the piece from inception to workshop experimentation to final theatrical presentation. \nMUSICAL SYNOPSIS: This musical is the story of Marie and Pierre Curie\, the two revolutionary scientists who discovered radium\, the most mysterious element on the Periodic Table. They become an inseparable team and\, as they uncover their element\, they encounter a glowing force that is beautiful and frightening\, that has the power to heal and the power to kill. And they must decide what to do with it. \nAdditionally\, one lucky attendee drawn at random will win tickets to an arts organization in their town.
