Sound like? Feel like? \nAs a professional engineer\, Emily Nichols imagines “a world where we can stop talking about being women in engineering – we can just be great engineers in workplaces with plenty of role models and mentors of all genders.” \nBut how do we get there? Emily likes to focus on small\, daily actions we can all take\, no matter our position or profession. In this program\, Emily combines storytelling with discussion and teaches a few simple sketching skills to help us visualize and move towards a gender-equal world. \nLearning Outcomes: \n\nExplore what a gender-equal world looks like\nExpress our ideas visually\, with words & simple sketches\nPrepare to take small\, daily actions towards our vision\n\nParticipants will need: blank paper\, pens & colored markers\, and ideally\, cameras on. \nAll gender identities welcome! Once considered a tool for assessing socially conscious investment\, ESG (Environment\, Social\, Governance) factors are now considered a critical tool to help assess and manage risk\, performance and impact. Increased activism in areas like climate change\, social and environmental justice\, and diversity\, equity\, and inclusion have shone a spotlight on the ESG practices of companies across the globe. \nJoin us at NEWIEE’s 2022 Women Shaping the Agenda event to learn how ESG practices and reporting have become a driver for positive change in energy and environment. Our panelists will discuss strategic considerations\, opportunities and challenges\, and lessons learned as companies work to minimize their impact on the climate and communities while continuing to deliver financially. \nPlease see below for important COVID-19 safety protocols for this event. \nYou are welcome to download any event photos linked at the button below. SUMMARY:NEWIEE & CPES: Meeting CT's New Carbon-Free Power Goals: What's the Role for Peaker Plants?
DESCRIPTION:Join the New England Women in Energy and the Environment (NEWIEE) and the Connecticut Power and Energy Society (CPES) for our eighth annual joint event on Thursday\, September 22! This panel discussion will surround peaker plants and their role as Connecticut works towards a carbon-free future. \nPeaker plants serve a unique role in our current grid by providing key reliability services. However\, many peakers emit pollutants at a higher rate than baseload plants. The majority are located in communities with a higher percentage of low-income households\, and peakers disproportionately impact communities of color. As Connecticut acts on its commitment to a decarbonized energy future\, what are our alternatives for filling the role currently played by fossil peakers? What are the business\, policy\, infrastructure\, market and equity pieces that need to fall into place to make this transition? Our panelists are all regional leaders who have been actively tackling these questions. \n\n	\n\n\n	\n\n	\n\n\n \n\n \n\n\n\n	\n	Panelists\n\nAlicia Barton\, Chief Executive Officer at FirstLight Power\nTracy Babbidge\, Chief of the Bureau of Air Management at the CT DEEP\nKatherine Rougeux\, Business Development Manager at the New York Power Authority\nSharon Lewis\, Executive Director at the CT Coalition on Environmental & Economic Justice\n\nModerated by:\n\nAnne George\, VP of External Affairs at ISO New England and former Connecticut DPUC Commissioner\n\n\n	\n\n\n	\n\n	\n\n\n \n\n	\n\n	\n\n\n \n\n \n\n\n\n	\n	In Person & Virtual Event at UCONN School of Law \n\n	\n\n\n	\n\n\n\n	\n Register Here\n\n	\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\n	\n	Sponsored by:
