Working to balance our efforts between conservation and climate mitigation\, all while deploying solutions at an accelerated pace\, is essential. She believes that bridging the gap between science and technological innovations\, and local communities is essential to inspire change and develop mitigations at the pace we need that will ultimately reduce environmental harm. With this new industry [offshore wind]\, we have the opportunity to shape our energy future to the benefit of underserved communities. Historically\, energy infrastructure is ‘out of sight out of mind’ for well-off communities and sited within communities without the resources to advocate for their health\, environment and economic incentives. The prospect of an energy industry that is diverse\, just and shaped to the needs of our local communities is exciting and fills her with purpose daily. \nKelsey holds a Master of Science in Sustainability Science from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry from Clark University. \n\n[/mk_toggle][/vc_column_inner][/vc_row_inner][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space height=”15px”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1741055445412{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]\nDEI Founders’ Award – Individual:\n[/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=”10px”][vc_row_inner][vc_column_inner width=”1/6″][vc_single_image image=”24950″ img_size=”170×170″ css=””][/vc_column_inner][vc_column_inner width=”5/6″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1742747186326{margin-bottom: 0px !important;}”]Ruth Georges\nFounder and CEO\nWe Rise Consulting\, LLC[/vc_column_text][mk_toggle title=”Read Ruth’s Bio” el_class=”bio-toggle”]Ruth\, born in Port-Au-Prince\, Haiti\, migrated to the United States as a child and earned double majors in Interdisciplinary Social Science and Women & Gender Studies at the University of South Florida. SUMMARY:Rethinking Energy Savings: Exploring the Shift from Estimated to Data-Driven Approaches with Smart Meter Insights
DESCRIPTION:Moderator: Lark Lee\, Tetra Tech \nSpeakers: \nAdam Grant\, NV Energy\nChris Pollow\, Idaho Power\nCarmen Best\, Recurve\nGarry Jones\, Oncor \nAs energy efficiency becomes integral to the grid reliability conversation and advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) rolls out across the country\, policy makers\, regulators and administrators are assessing how to build trust in energy savings and demand reductions. Questions include: How reliable are current deemed savings? Can programs move from a deemed savings approach to a measured model? Are certain program types better suited to AMI measured or deemed savings? Moderated by a subject matter expert to foster lively discussion\, panelists with direct experience discuss their perspectives on the evolution of the use of AMI meter data and deemed savings. \nLearning Objectives: \n-Explain the differences between deemed savings and measured savings approaches in the context of AMI deployment and energy efficiency programs. \n-Evaluate the suitability of various energy efficiency program types for either deemed or measured savings models using real-world examples discussed by panelists. \n-Develop a policy recommendation framework that integrates AMI data to enhance trust and reliability in energy savings for utility programs.

SUMMARY:Pro Tour: Under Construction Passive House with Integrated PV Roof
DESCRIPTION:Event Date:\nFriday\, June 6\, 2025\nTime:\n1pm-5pm\nLocation:\nBethany\, CT 06524\nCEU Information:\nAIA (pending)\, Phius (pending) \nCost:\n$35 Members/$45 Non-Members\nOn June 6\, NESEA will be organizing a tour of a new single family home\, still under construction and being built to Passive House standards. \nAttendees at this early summer event will learn the story of this project\, nestled away in Bethany\, CT. The event hosts hope to showcase this residence\, which will be net zero ready\, as an example of a high-performance residence with minimal environmental impact. \nThe event will begin with an opening presentation\, with details including the design strategies\, materials selection\, performance goals\, and site considerations of the project. Attendees will then break into small groups to tour the facility while hearing more from the interdisciplinary team of experts who made the building possible. After the tour\, we’ll regroup for a reception and Q&A\, giving attendees the opportunity to chat with the day’s speakers and each other. \nAbout the Project \nWith a brook on the property\, the sensitive hydrology demanded a rigorous storm-water management approach\, incorporating rain chains and on-site infiltration wells to mitigate runoff and reduce reliance on municipal systems. The project team used an airtight envelope\, high-performance insulation\, thermal bridge-free detailing to improve the home’s performance\, and strategically positioned the triple-pane windows to optimize solar gain and heat retention. \nA state-of-the-art metal roof integrated with photovoltaic panels (one of the first installations of its kind in the nation) will offset 100% of demand\, including battery storage and electric vehicle charging. Sustainability extends to material selection\, with naturally weather-resistant cedar siding finished in a traditional charring process for durability without chemical treatments. Currently under construction and pre-certified under Phius +18\, the project team offers to share this residence as an example of what they hope can be an evolving model of resilience\, energy independence\, and environmental stewardship—setting a new benchmark for sustainable homebuilding.
