SUMMARY:EBC: Electricity 101: How New England Generates and Delivers Power – An EBC Energy Resources Webinar
DESCRIPTION:The energy world can seem complicated. From unfamiliar terminology to the complex systems that generate and deliver our electricity\, it’s not always easy to understand how it all fits together. This EBC Energy Resources webinar is designed to make it simple. Speakers will provide an overview of how the New England region gets its power: where electricity comes from\, how demand is managed\, and how the grid is changing to meet future needs. Experts will then walk through the different ways power is produced with short\, engaging presentations and plenty of time for questions. \nThis webinar is perfect for anyone who wants to better understand where our electricity comes from and how it gets to our homes and communities. \nIntended audience: early career professionals\, students\, conservation commission members\, planning board members\, municipal staff and managers\, and anyone interested in better understanding how the New England energy system works. \nGeneral Continuing Education Certificates are awarded by the EBC for this program (1.5 training contact hours). Certificates are automatically provided via email link for registered attendees at the conclusion of the webinar. \nEnvironmental Business Council of New England is offering a free ticket option for NEWIEE members.

SUMMARY:EBC Webinar: Climate Resiliency Funding in 2025: Updates\, Challenges\, and Creative Strategies
DESCRIPTION:This EBC Climate Change Webinar will provide timely updates on federal and state funding programs previously presented in October 2024. Recent legal and legislative developments have limited access to available climate resources at the federal level. States\, regions\, and communities are increasingly allocating resources to fight climate change and develop resiliency-related funding sources to proactively adapt to expected climate impacts. As climate events continue to become more frequent and severe\, where does this leave us now? \nThis webinar will explore creative and emerging funding strategies\, including case studies and insights from both former federal staff and regional leaders. Attendees will gain a clearer understanding of how states like Massachusetts and Maine\, alongside private and philanthropic partners\, are mobilizing resources to advance climate adaptation and resiliency initiatives. \nA robust audience Q&A will conclude the webinar.

SUMMARY:EBC Webinar: From Barriers to Blueprints: Evolving Environmental Regulations for a Resilient Future
DESCRIPTION:The Climate Adaptation Forum is a collaboration between the Environmental Business Council and the Sustainable Solutions Lab at the University of Massachusetts Boston. \nAs the climate crisis accelerates\, state and local governments are rethinking outdated policies and building a regulatory foundation for climate resilience. This Forum will spotlight innovative approaches to updating regulations\, many of which were originally written without climate change in mind\, to support adaptation projects that address sea level rise\, flooding\, and extreme weather. \nThrough case studies from across the U.S.\, including New Jersey’s overhaul of land use policies\, Cape Cod’s climate-focused regional plan\, and the Vermont Flood Safety Act\, we’ll explore how forward-looking jurisdictions are embedding climate adaptation into permitting\, zoning\, and design standards. \nSpeakers will discuss the process of developing enforceable frameworks\, the importance of accommodating dynamic coastlines and shifting baselines\, and the tools being used to navigate uncertainty. \nAttendees will gain insight into how regulations are being reshaped as catalysts for resilient infrastructure\, healthy ecosystems\, and equitable community protection. \nForum Speakers\nCommissioner Shawn M. SUMMARY:EBC 17th Annual Dredging Conference – Beneficial Use of Dredge Materials: Tools available to help your restoration project
DESCRIPTION:The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) has initiated a new directive to beneficially use 70% of its dredged materials by 2030. This doctrine now promotes and encourages the use of dredged materials to restore marshes and wetlands\, support coastal resiliency efforts\, or create new habitats. Dredged materials are seen as a resource\, not a waste. \nThe USACE has led the effort to reuse dredge materials through research and development at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC). ERDC and its initiative\, Engineering With Nature (EWN)\, have developed a number of tools to assist the engineering and regulatory community in the development of beneficial use projects. \nEBC’s 17th Annual Dredging Conference focuses on USACE’s initiative to beneficially use dredge material\, with speakers addressing wetland engineering\, nature-based solutions\, and modeling best practices. The conference will provide attendees with the tools and knowledge to better plan\, develop\, and execute projects that use dredged material. \nA robust panel discussion with the audience will conclude the webinar. \nGeneral Continuing Education Certificates are awarded by the EBC for this program (2.5 training contact hours). Certificates are automatically provided via email link for registered attendees at the conclusion of the webinar. \nView the presentation’s from last year’s annual conference: https://ebcne.org/event/ebc-16th-annual-dredging-conference-our-sediment-project-was-perfect-well-there-was-one-issue-lessons-learned-for-environmental-dredging-and-capping-projects/

SUMMARY:Back to Basics: PFAS Chemistry 101 – An EBC “Lunch & Learn” Webinar
DESCRIPTION:This collaborative webinar between the EBC Emerging Contaminants and Ascending Professionals Committees will provide a return to the basics of PFAS chemistry. \nMany practitioners are not aware that the chemistry of PFAS can have a significant impact on further evaluations and decision-making\, such as fate & transport\, forensics\, and treatment\, more so for this group of contaminants than others we are more familiar with. \nThis webinar will cover the fundamentals: What are PFAS? What is the difference between polymer PFAS and non-polymer PFAS? How do perfluoroalkyl substances differ from polyfluoroalkyl substances? What does it mean when we say short chain PFAS and long chain PFAS or linear PFAS and branched PFAS? What are some of the chemical and physical properties that are unique to PFAS? How are PFAS manufactured and why does that matter? Can PFAS undergo transformation in the environment? Which PFAS have been used as replacement for compounds like PFOA? The webinar will allow ample time for questions. \nGeneral Continuing Education Certificates are awarded by the EBC for this program (1.5 training contact hours). Certificates are automatically provided via email link for registered attendees at the conclusion of the webinar.
