SUMMARY:MassCEC's Built Environment Plus: Embodied Carbon Reduction in Buildings
DESCRIPTION:Iterative life cycle assessment (LCA) through the course of design offers a powerful method for vetting embodied carbon reduction strategies. This session will walk through key priorities and examples of how to put LCA into practice during design and procurement. First\, it will cover target setting\, building certifications\, scoping considerations\, and structural system selection during early design. Then\, it will discuss practical examples of assembly comparisons and whole building life cycle assessment (WBLCA) on vastly different building types and scopes including offices\, data centers\, multi-family\, and commercial fit-outs. These diverse case studies will offer insight into how LCA can be leveraged for decision making towards deep carbon reduction. \nThis course is taught by Aurora Jensen\, Brightworks Sustainability.

SUMMARY:MassCEC - IIJA Section 40101(D) Public Meeting
DESCRIPTION:As part of upgrading and modernizing infrastructure\, the Department of Energy’s (DOE) Bipartisan Infrastructure Law investments will address the climate crisis and support efforts to build a clean and equitable energy economy that achieves zero carbon electricity by 2035 and put the United States on a path to achieve net-zero emissions economy-wide by no later than 2050 to benefit all Americans. \n“Preventing Outages and Enhancing the Resilience of the Electric Grid” will provide $459 million annually over a period of five years to States and Indian Tribes to improve the resilience of the electric grid against disruptive events. Under the program\, the DOE will provide grants to eligible applicants to improve the resilience of their electric grids. These grants offer a unique opportunity to advance the capabilities of States and Indian Tribes to address current and future resilience needs.

SUMMARY:NECEC's Energy Storage in the Northeast: Past\, Present\, and Future
DESCRIPTION:Across the Northeast\, states have been exploring how energy storage can help them reach their clean energy and climate goals. From MassCEC and the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources’ (DOER) Advancing Commonwealth Energy Storage to similar programs in Vermont\, Maine\, and Connecticut\, Northeast states are proving that storage will be a key part of the energy system of the future. NECEC is convening industry leaders and policy experts for an event on May 12 to review what we’ve learned from efforts to deploy energy storage projects and how we can encourage future growth in the Northeast storage market. This event will explore which energy storage demonstration projects in the Northeast were most successful and where the region’s storage market is headed.
