SUMMARY:NECEC's Green Future Gala
DESCRIPTION:NEECE’s 2023 Green Future Gala will focus on Building the Climate Economy. Because the work of decarbonization is taking over as the engine for the entire commercial sector\, our tent has grown bigger than ever\, and that means there are whole new ways to do business. \nNECEC has convened key figures\, built relationships and accelerated startups to help take clean energy from a fond wish to the keystone for the coming decades of our economy. And NECEC is centering diversity\, equity\, inclusion and justice in their work to make sure the economic and environmental benefits of a cleaner world reach everyone. This must be a movement of the many\, by the many\, for all. Expect to meet a whole new cross-section of people who very well might be the most important connections you make this year! \nNECEC’s Green Future Gala will showcase the people and technologies that are building a cleaner\, more resilient future. Our ecosystem is growing\, as is the positive impact of the work our members and partners are doing. Participants will spend the night spotlighting how we build a better future together.

SUMMARY:NECEC's Emerging Trends Series: Decarbonizing Building Heating
DESCRIPTION:One of the toughest barriers to achieving net zero is how to decarbonize the thermal side of energy production (e.g. building heating). Electrification with heat pumps has been proposed as a broadly applicable solution\, and we are starting to see significant heat pump deployment. However electrification may not be a viable solution in every case\, and we may need to consider other pathways like geothermal\, RNG and/or green-hydrogen based solutions. \nAt this event NECEC will convene leaders in the built environment along with technology experts and developers to discuss the pros and cons of each solution. This will cover a range of low carbon options utilizing many technologies such as (but not limited to) Combined Heat and Power (CHP) and District Energy. Participants will also hear from local community representatives about their challenges and which solutions might deliver the best results for EJ communities

SUMMARY:NECEC/AEG Clean Transportation Summit
DESCRIPTION:The transportation sector accounts for 42% of the greenhouse gas emissions in the Northeast U.S.\, making it the single largest contributor to the region’s carbon footprint. While cleaning up the transportation sector is a priority for states in the Northeast\, it will require a massive amount of new infrastructure deployment and extensive retrofits to existing infrastructure in order to transform it. NECEC and AEG will convene leaders from the public and private sectors across the Northeast to share lessons learned\, pain points and successes to build consensus on how we can wrap our arms around the enormous task of building a clean transportation sector. In particular\, we will look at the recent plans made by all states for public EV charging stations on Interstate highways and what infrastructure (charging and other technologies) is needed for both public and private entities and heavy duty electric truck fleets. \nWe also will delve into the community level perspective to assess how well regional plans address local needs and how to ensure this mass transition is done equitably.

SUMMARY:NECEC's Strategic Partner Network Grid Modernization Summit
DESCRIPTION:Across the Northeast states have been advancing the electrical grid to handle the influx of dynamic and distributed supply from renewable energy sources and an increasingly dynamic load driven with the rise of electric vehicle charging\, energy storage and heat pumps. \nStates have set aggressive goals to achieve net zero emissions and high levels of clean energy. Now\, state regulators need to direct the utilities to upgrade the electric distribution networks to maximize the production of a safe\, equitable\, reliable\, resilient\, affordable and increasingly sustainable electric grid supply for the benefit of all. Several questions have risen to the top in the debate on the best way forward: \n\nIs there software technology that can reduce the capital outlay effectively?\n\n\nDoes this software really help the Utilities or not?\n\n\nWho is best placed to test the deployment of these technologies\, and who can vet the effectiveness\, affordability and pragmatism of emerging utility proposals or vendor claims?\n\nNECEC will convene leaders from the public and private sector on April 14 to examine the challenges and opportunities this system upgrade presents \nNECEC will start with a Keynote from MassCEC sharing the output of recent workshops on best practice approaches to planning electric distribution network upgrades.

SUMMARY:NECEC's Energy Storage in the Northeast: Past\, Present\, and Future
DESCRIPTION:Across the Northeast\, states have been exploring how energy storage can help them reach their clean energy and climate goals. From MassCEC and the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources’ (DOER) Advancing Commonwealth Energy Storage to similar programs in Vermont\, Maine\, and Connecticut\, Northeast states are proving that storage will be a key part of the energy system of the future. NECEC is convening industry leaders and policy experts for an event on May 12 to review what we’ve learned from efforts to deploy energy storage projects and how we can encourage future growth in the Northeast storage market. This event will explore which energy storage demonstration projects in the Northeast were most successful and where the region’s storage market is headed.
