SUMMARY:SWEP MA: Workplace Empowerment\, with Elizabeth Foughty\, MBA
DESCRIPTION:Join the Massachusetts Chapter of the Society of Women Environmental Professionals (SWEP-MA) and our host\, Trinity Consultants – Safety Partners\, for an evening with Elizabeth Foughty\, MBA. \nWorkplace Empowerment\, with Elizabeth Foughty\, MBA \nToo often\, conversations about empowering women at work revolve around imitating traditionally masculine behaviors or finding a mentor to help “navigate the system.” But what if the goal isn’t to navigate a broken system—it’s to reshape it? \nIn this talk\, Elizabeth Foughty draws from her two decades of experience leading go-to-market strategy in high-tech and deeply technical fields\, from NASA to insurance to Space startups\, to challenge outdated notions of leadership and success. She shares actionable insights on how women can show up as powerful without compromising authenticity\, how to cultivate influence outside the traditional hierarchy\, and why we must stop waiting for mentors and start building ecosystems of mutual support. \nMeet with other environmental professionals for this presentation and dinner\, with time for discussion and networking.   \nTime:       6 PM – Registration opens \n                6-6:30 PM – Dinner and networking \n                6:30-8 PM – Presentation & Discussion \nAbout our speaker:   \nElizabeth Foughty is the Chief Business Officer at Orbital Sentry\, where she leads strategy and partnerships for Earth observation technologies aimed at tackling climate risk. With a career spanning NASA\, geospatial AI startups\, insurtechs\, and satellite data providers like Planet Labs\, Elizabeth blends deep technical expertise with a passion for impact. She brings a unique perspective shaped by her MBA in Sustainable Management and years spent launching cutting-edge technologies in male-dominated industries like the insurance and space sectors. A longtime advocate for women in tech and science\, Elizabeth is committed to empowering women to lead in the fight for environmental resilience. \nAbout our host: \nFor 30+ years\, Safety Partners has grown alongside the east coast life science industry\, servicing over 900 companies ranging from single employee startups to incubators to big pharma. From initial laboratory set-up to maintaining comprehensive EHS programs\, our tailored solutions bring our clients peace of mind so they can focus on their next scientific breakthroughs. As part of Trinity Consultants\, we join colleagues with the same mission to support the life science industry.\n \nThank you to Elizabeth Foughty for talking with SWEP-MA and to Trinity Consultants – Safety Partners for hosting this event. \nCancellation Policy: \n For professional development events\, refunds are available until 7 days before the event. There are no refunds for basic networking events. \nPlease let us know if you have any food allergies and we will try to accomodate them.

SUMMARY:Blight: fungi and the coming pandemic\, a reading and some conversation
DESCRIPTION:Join the Massachusetts Chapter of the Society of Women Environmental Professionals (SWEP-MA) and our host\, College of the Holy Cross\, for an evening with author and toxicologist Emily Monosson. A light dinner will be available. \nBlight: fungi and the coming pandemic\, a reading and some conversation \nMeet with other environmental professionals and College of the Holy Cross students for this reading and dinner\, with time for discussion and networking. \nTime: 6 PM – Registration opens \n 6-6:45 PM – Dinner and networking \n 6:45-8 PM – Presentation & Discussion \nAbout our speaker: Trained as an environmental toxicologist\, Emily Monosson has been writing about science and about our impact on the environment and the consequences for wildlife and agricultural plants and us\, for over a decade. One of her first edited books\, Motherhood the Elephant in the Laboratory: Women Scientists Speak Out gave voice to women scientists at all stages in their career facing the problems of working in traditional scientific institutions as parents and their creative and unique solutions for maintaining a meaningful life in science. A series of books that explored the evolution of life’s chemical defense responses followed. From Evolution in a Toxic World to Unnatural Selection and Natural Defense her books focus on how the chemicals we use to manage many pests and pathogens are instead pushing many of them to evolve and how we might reduce these selective pressures. Her most recent book\, Blight: Fungi and the Coming Pandemic has been called sobering\, unsettling and “a short\, crisp introduction to the possibility of being devoured by fungi.” She is a fan of HBO’s Last of Us\, though does not live in fear of becoming a fungal zombie.

SUMMARY:The Empathy Dilemma - Online with SPC
DESCRIPTION:Join the Society of Women Environmental Professionals (SWEP-MA) and the Society of Professional Consultants (SPC) for a virtual event on The Empathy Dilemma: How Successful Leaders Balance People\, Performance\, and Personal Boundaries with Maria Ross on Thursday December 5\, 3-4\, PM. \nRegister for this online event will open in the fall. \nAbout the Workshop \nAll across the globe\, organizations are becoming more human-centric. They’ve jettisoned old paradigms of success that center on endless overtime and constant employee sacrifice. They’ve tied success to purpose and workforce morale and helped people balance personal and professional needs as their priorities change. They’ve made shifts that are both necessary and positive. But now\, those striving to be empathetic leaders and colleagues are experiencing the dark side: Taking on extra work\, avoiding conflict\, spending too much time on personal issues\, or simply burning out from trying to balance concern for colleagues with the needs of the business. How can we remain human-focused and still maintain high performance\, set personal boundaries\, and avoid burning out\, without being treated like villains? \nIn this timely talk by empathy advocate\, TEDx speaker\, podcaster\, and strategist\, Maria Ross\, author of The Empathy Edge and now The Empathy Dilemma\, you’ll discover how empathy benefits your organization’s performance and why your perception of empathy might be false and leading you astray. You’ll also learn about 5 valuable pillars you can shore up to be both an effective AND empathetic leader and find more success. \nTakeaways: \n· DEFINE what empathy at work actually is – and more importantly\, what it is NOT \n· DISCOVER 3 bottom-line organizational benefits of empathetic leadership and culture – through presenting relevant data and research and discussing case studies that disrupt traditional thinking. Empathy is not just good for the world\, but it can be a competitive advantage. We’ll walk through the financial & organizational benefits of leading with empathy. \n· RECOGNIZE why empathy at work is so challenging in a post-pandemic world\, especially for leaders \n· DISCOVER and PRACTICE the Five Pillars of Effective Empathy to avoid burnout and better balance people\, performance\, and personal boundaries.

SUMMARY:SWEP MA & CT's The Economy of Kindness: How Kindness Transforms Your Bottom Line
DESCRIPTION:Join the Society of Women Environmental Professionals\, Massachusetts Chapter (SWEP-MA) for this online event with Linda Cohen. \nWhat is the impact of kindness? In this highly interactive program\, Cohen shares how kindness in the workplace\, improves employee morale\, elevates workplace culture\, and reduces burnout. The size of the kindness action doesn’t matter. There is often an unexpected ripple effect and giving and receiving are often experienced differently. According to research from the University of California Riverside\, 40% of our happiness is determined by intentional actions\, not by genes (50%) or circumstances (10%). Cohen will encourage participation that will help attendees share ways to cultivate a strong culture of kindness. She will also share timely examples. This program will give your participants a variety of new kindness ideas and resources to implement immediately. \nLinda Cohen is The Kindness Catalyst\, a speaker\, consultant and author of a new book\, The Economy of Kindness: How Kindness Transforms Your Bottom Line. For more information check her website lindacohenconsulting.com.
