SUMMARY:WEST's Career Growth Spotlight - How a great manager can support your career aspirations
DESCRIPTION:There is collective recognition that managers can have an outsized impact on their employees’ daily satisfaction and retention. In fact\, it is often said that “People do not leave bad jobs; they leave bad managers.” We have all heard stories about the impact of toxic and/or ineffective bosses. \nPerhaps less frequently discussed are great bosses. What makes a boss extraordinary? How do talented managers boost their team member’s careers\, confidence\, and/or opportunities? How can you identify one of these unicorns when you have the opportunity to select a future manager? In the absence of a supportive manager\, how can you leverage other relationships to enable your career growth? The panelists will address these questions and more as they reflect on formative experiences in their own careers. The event will be moderated by Laurie Bohn\, a leadership development professional\, founder of TalentVivo and WEST Advisory Board member. \nWhether you seek perspective on your current environment\, want to understand what to look for in a future manager\, or you are looking to refine your leadership philosophy\, we hope you’ll join WEST on April 26th for this thought-provoking discussion. \nPanelists Include:\n– Heike Keilhack\, CSO\, Ribon Therapeutics\n– Kristine McKinney\, Executive Director\, Moderna Genomics\n– Mariana Nacht\, CSO\, Logic Bio

SUMMARY:WEST's Finding Your Voice through Creativity and Adversity
DESCRIPTION:Experience the Art of Women in Science and on Broadway\nAttend a virtual STEAM (Science\, Technology\, Engineering\, the Arts\, Mathematics) series\nEnjoy a unique Broadway experience exploring the intersection of science and art. This 3-part series is different than our usual WEST events in that we will watch Broadway stars perform and explore the parallels between artistic and scientific processes of creation and innovation. We have an opportunity to explore the challenges women face in their fields through the lens of Broadway performances. True to our mission to inspire\, we will hear from compelling keynote speakers during each session. \nFinding Your Voice through Creativity and Adversity\nIn this event\, we will tap into our creativity to take a fresh look at the role success and adversity have in helping us step into our authentic selves as people and as professionals. Through which lens do we consider something a success? How do you change your perspective to see your failures as opportunities for learning? This session will allow participants to consider their own experiences as a narrative and to explore their intersectionality as a person\, professional\, and creative force. \nAdditionally\, one lucky attendee drawn at random will win tickets to an arts organization in their town.

SUMMARY:WEST's Engineering Art
\nRadioactive\, A musical about Marie Curie\nParticipants will get a sneak peek of scenes and songs from the Marie Curie-themed musical Radioactive by Will Reynolds and Eric Price. You will discover the parallels in the creative process between the artists who create musicals about scientific historical figures and the scientists inspiring their work. The creators of this musical will speak about their research of science in writing the play and how these two worlds have combined to make a musical. These creatives will discuss the challenges of bringing the piece from inception to workshop experimentation to final theatrical presentation. \nMUSICAL SYNOPSIS: This musical is the story of Marie and Pierre Curie\, the two revolutionary scientists who discovered radium\, the most mysterious element on the Periodic Table. They become an inseparable team and\, as they uncover their element\, they encounter a glowing force that is beautiful and frightening\, that has the power to heal and the power to kill. And they must decide what to do with it. \nAdditionally\, one lucky attendee drawn at random will win tickets to an arts organization in their town.

SUMMARY:WEST's Be a Better Ally
DESCRIPTION:As we continue to prioritize diversity and inclusion in the workplace\, the term allyship is tossed around a lot. But what does it actually mean (and not mean) to be an ally? Many well-intentioned professionals would like to be allies but they’re not sure how. They have concerns about overstepping or misreading situational cues. Or\, they feel uncomfortable having conversations about what support looks like to others. \nRegardless of your background\, role or level\, you can be an ally. In this interactive discussion\, you’ll learn how. WEST will: \n\nDebunk some of the myths around allyship\nExplore common challenging scenarios in breakout sessions and strategize how to show up as an ally in each one\nDiscuss key strategies and action steps to serve as allies to others.

SUMMARY:WEST's Speak Up & Be Heard
DESCRIPTION:Speak Up & Be Heard: How to Speak Up at Work Without Fear of Being Judged \nHave you considered how your fear of being judged for speaking up is negatively impacting your career? \nThe 2019 McKinsey Women in the Workplace report\, which surveyed 329 companies & more than 68\,000 employees\, found that 50% of the surveyed women experienced being interrupted or spoken over\, and 38% had others take credit for their ideas. \nWhether you’re speaking up in a virtual meeting\, presenting an idea to your boss or giving a presentation to your team\, speaking confidently is the only way to truly be heard & achieve the goals you wish to accomplish in your career. \nYet\, it can be scary. All eyes are on you and only you. You want to make sure you don’t say the wrong thing or offend anybody but at the same time\, you don’t want to sit in silence because you’re afraid to speak up and then later kick yourself for not sharing what’s on your mind. \nSo\, as a professional woman in your field\, how do you speak up with CONFIDENCE without the fear of being judged by your superiors or your peers? \nWhen you join me in my free virtual workshop\, you will receive methods that I’ve shared in training over 20\,000 career professionals in 30 cities internationally\, to speak up & be heard so that you can receive the visibility that you deserve. \nIn this virtual workshop\, you will learn: \n\nHow to bypass your inner critic & speak up without judging yourself so that you can freely express your ideas & be heard.\nHow to speak with confidence\, even when under pressure\, so that you can share your talents & be recognized for them.\nHow to stop sabotaging your voice\, so that you can advocate for what you want in your career\, especially when it counts the most.
