SUMMARY:EBC: Climate Adaptation Communication – Decoding Data and Risk for All
DESCRIPTION:Decisions about climate resilience are increasingly data-informed and increasingly complex. \nFor policymakers and practitioners\, this means working beyond black-and-white solutions to design interventions that acknowledge uncertainty\, mitigate risk\, and strengthen community resilience. \nThis Forum brings together practitioners who will share how they have found success in breaking down complex data and communicating it in clear\, contextualized ways. Through real-world examples\, speakers will demonstrate how communities of all sizes can proactively address climate risk. Attendees will be presented with a range of approaches for communicating climate data\, risk\, and the importance of adaptation in ways that are accessible\, credible\, and most importantly\, actionable. \nForum Schedule\n9:00 a.m. – 9:30 a.m. – Registration & Networking\n9:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Forum\n12:30 p.m. – 1:30 p.m. – Lunch (optional) \n\nThis event has both In Person and Virtual registration options available: \nhttps://web.cvent.com/event/df3efdf5-f70c-4a98-8ee4-c6374d06f739/register \nhttps://web.cvent.com/event/1fa0e7fb-877b-40e2-91ca-22f4f4557703/register

SUMMARY:EBC Webinar: From Barriers to Blueprints: Evolving Environmental Regulations for a Resilient Future
DESCRIPTION:The Climate Adaptation Forum is a collaboration between the Environmental Business Council and the Sustainable Solutions Lab at the University of Massachusetts Boston. \nAs the climate crisis accelerates\, state and local governments are rethinking outdated policies and building a regulatory foundation for climate resilience. This Forum will spotlight innovative approaches to updating regulations\, many of which were originally written without climate change in mind\, to support adaptation projects that address sea level rise\, flooding\, and extreme weather. \nThrough case studies from across the U.S.\, including New Jersey’s overhaul of land use policies\, Cape Cod’s climate-focused regional plan\, and the Vermont Flood Safety Act\, we’ll explore how forward-looking jurisdictions are embedding climate adaptation into permitting\, zoning\, and design standards. \nSpeakers will discuss the process of developing enforceable frameworks\, the importance of accommodating dynamic coastlines and shifting baselines\, and the tools being used to navigate uncertainty. \nAttendees will gain insight into how regulations are being reshaped as catalysts for resilient infrastructure\, healthy ecosystems\, and equitable community protection. \nForum Speakers\nCommissioner Shawn M. SUMMARY:EBC Report-Out on the Recommendations of the Massachusetts Commission on Energy Infrastructure Siting and Permitting
DESCRIPTION:Join EBC for an opportunity to learn more about the recommendations of the Massachusetts Commission on Energy Infrastructure Siting and Permitting issued on March 29\, 2024. The Commission\, made up of a diverse membership of professionals and advocates invested in the Commonwealth’s clean energy transition goals\, was tasked with providing recommendations that will help reduce permitting timelines\, ensure communities have input in the siting and permitting of clean energy infrastructure\, and ensure that the benefits of a clean energy transition are shared equitably. The recommendations will provide an important resource to policy makers and state leadership in their work to implement the Commonwealth’s net zero goals. \nThis EBC “report-out” brings the Chair of Commission Michael Judge into the room to provide an overview of the Commission\, its processes and work\, as well as a review of the recommendations. Following Chair Judge’s overview\, a panel of Commission members will discuss the recommendations in more detail and answer audience questions. \nThis is a “can’t miss” lunchtime program for anyone interested in the clean energy transition. \nAbout the Commission on Energy Infrastructure Siting and Permitting \nThe Commission on Energy Infrastructure Siting and Permitting was established by Executive Order 620 in September 2023 and was tasked with reducing permitting timelines\, ensuring communities have input in the siting and permitting of clean energy infrastructure\, and ensuring that the benefits of the clean energy transition are shared equitably. \nThe Commission provided recommendations to the Governor on administrative\, regulatory\, and legislative changes to existing permitting and siting procedures on April 1\, 2024 [read the recommendations]. \nGeneral Continuing Education Certificates are awarded by the EBC for this program (1.5 training contact hours). Certificates are automatically provided via email link for registered attendees at the conclusion of the program. \nRegister Here: https://web.cvent.com/event/3658736e-4a9b-435d-8138-9e6aa291a91a/register
