A Valuable Resource to Assist Your Career Growth
Join NEWIEE’s Rising Professionals Group
Determining next steps in your career path can be daunting. Trying to figure out how I wanted to spend my time forty hours a week and how to get there, felt especially difficult in a fast-paced and ever-evolving industry like energy and the environment. Flash forward to today, and I am happy to say that my unsettled feelings subsided when I became a member of New England Women In Energy and the Environment (NEWIEE) and started building the support I needed to succeed. In particular, my involvement with NEWIEE’s Rising Professionals group community networking resource has opened up a valuable resource for me and other young women in these fields as we proactively assist each other’s growth in the industry.
I joined NEWIEE after graduating from the University of Connecticut with a variety of environmentally focused majors and minors. It was difficult to piece together how I could apply my education and research experiences to the working world. A mentor advised me to look for networking groups related to what I’m interested in, and that’s how I found NEWIEE. While attending my first NEWIEE event, I connected with professional women whose careers I had never considered as options for myself. This included environmental lawyers, analysts, and engineers. The inspiration these women gave me pushed my career onto a professional path oriented around what I am passionate about, sustainability.
Today, Deanna Sassorossi and I serve as co-chairs on NEWIEE’s Rising Professionals Group. Our goal is to encourage young women to explore the vast opportunities within the energy and environmental industry. Through events such as career panels, bi-monthly meetings, and casual meetups at breweries, members are exposed to other professionals also determining the starting steps of their professional careers. NEWIEE has served as an invaluable support system by allowing us to navigate the industry together.
I encourage you to join us! It’s easy to do. For NEWIEE membership information, check out this link. To join the Rising Professionals group, email Deanna Sassorossi at deanna.sassorossi@eversource.com and she will fill you in on how to get started!
