Honoring Industry Leaders and Changemakers
Boston, MA (April 14, 2025): New England Women in Energy and the Environment (NEWIEE), a powerful force of professionals in the energy and environmental fields, will host its 14th Awards Gala on May 8, 2025, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM at the Westin Copley Place in Boston, Massachusetts. This annual event brings together more than 700 people to celebrate women’s leadership and achievements across the energy and environmental fields.
Cindy Fitzgibbon, Chief Meteorologist for WCVB Channel 5, will serve as the evening’s emcee. With more than 25 years of experience, Fitzgibbon is a trailblazer and distinguished leader in Boston’s meteorological community. She’s actively involved in promoting science education among young girls through programs like the Discovery Museum’s “Smart Gals” initiative and the Science Club for Girls.
“Every year I leave inspired and proud to be part of this incredible community,” said Vivian Kimball, NEWIEE Gala co-chair and director of natural sciences for VHB. “I hope you’ll join us and be a part of the vibrant energy that day with hundreds of talented professionals and leaders coming together to celebrate our amazing honorees!”
NEWIEE will also celebrate at this year’s Gala the following honorees for their accomplishments as leaders and changemakers in energy and the environment:
- Leadership Award: Honors women who demonstrate excellence in their fi eld, promoting and furthering opportunities for women in the energy and environmental sectors.
- Reihaneh Irani-Famili, Founder and CEO of Viridi Edge
- Rising Star Award: Recognizes a woman with less than ten years of industry experience who has demonstrated a commitment to and positive impact on her field.
- Kelsey Perry, Project Manager at Ocean Winds
- DEI Founders’ Awards: Recognize outstanding contributions to diversity, equity, and inclusion, honoring both individuals and organizations.
- Individual: Ruth Georges, Founder of We Rise Consulting, LLC
- Organization: BT2 Energy, Better Together Brain Trust

Founded in 2008, NEWIEE is a professional organization working to drive greater diversity, equity, and inclusion in the energy and environmental fields by fueling career exploration, entry, and advancement among underrepresented communities; taking a leadership role addressing energy and environmental issues in our region; and highlighting the expertise contributions and achievements of those traditionally underrepresented in our fields.
