Help Amplify Our Mission – Donate $15 in Celebration of NEWIEE’s 15th Year

In Letters from the President, NEWIEE Blog

15 years ago, a small group of women working at the intersection of the energy and environmental fields came together to form New England Women in Energy and the Environment (NEWIEE). Their vision was to elevate the voices of women and drive greater diversity, equity, and inclusion in the energy and environmental sectors and harness the passion, intelligence and leadership experience of women to promote and encourage public interest in the energy and environmental sectors.

Since then, NEWIEE has grown to a dynamic community of 1200+ active members across the region, providing professional development and career opportunities, taking a leadership role in highlighting regional issues, showcasing the achievements of some of the most notable regional and national female changemakers and providing inspiration to countless others through their example.

But despite our progress, at a time when the energy and environmental fields are poised for unprecedented growth and facing a critical shortage of skilled talent, those sectors continue to lag in diversity, equity & inclusion. Underrepresented populations in the industry are notably absent from leadership roles and paid less than their counterparts. Further, studies show that underrepresented populations are less satisfied with their opportunities for professional development, mentorship and advancement in the fields and are more likely to experience bias, microaggressions and unsafe work environment – both of which threaten retention of diverse professionals in our fields.

NEWIEE continues to provide programming and events that attempt to draw attention to and address these issues. In 2023, NEWIEE once again increased its offerings by creating new programs, like Peer Circles, and expanding its existing mentorship and Rising Professional programs. As we close out the year, NEWIEE is looking to expand its programming even further by building the capacity to create a fellowship program that will assist in creating more diverse, equitable and inclusive energy and environmental sectors.

This work has never been more important. Nor has your support.

As we enter our 15th year, we’re asking all of our supporters to help accelerate our work by making a $15 donation to NEWIEE. An anonymous donor has committed to matching all donations earned before the end of 2023, up to $15,000. Give today to make your gift go further!

We thank you for your ongoing support.

Sincerely,
