May is Membership Month
In May, we celebrate Membership Month at NEWIEE. It’s a great time to reflect on how far we have come: the NEWIEE organization, as well as women in the energy and environmental fields.
NEWIEE started out as a small group of women who saw the need to create a supportive network for women in our field. The founders of NEWIEE, volunteering their time to bring together women in a support network, laid the foundation of this incredible organization we are part of today. Those who attended the Gala saw firsthand hundreds of women at all phases of their careers coming together to network and celebrate. From students to CEOs, state and federal agency leaders, all in the same room mingling and celebrating the accomplishments of other women. It was energizing for all who attended.
It has been incredible to see the growth of NEWIEE, especially over the past few years. Since 2018, NEWIEE has more than tripled its Organizational Members, growing to include 90 leading companies, nonprofit groups, academic institutions, and government agencies and more than 1,300 people engaged. Our offerings have greatly expanded beyond our core Signature Events like the Gala, Women Shaping the Agenda, and the Annual Membership Meeting/Fall Fete to include a wide range of programs aimed at fueling career exploration, entry and advancement among those traditionally underrepresented in our fields in order to drive greater diversity, equity, and inclusion. NEWIEE on Campus now engages high school and college students to bolster awareness of energy and environmental careers. Our jobs board has been incredibly popular, sharing over 650 job opportunities in 2022 alone! Our Rising Professionals and Mentorship programs offer professional development opportunities to help our members grow their careers. We added “Ask Me Anything!”, Chapter events and outings, and more, using input from our members to guide our efforts to bring new, relevant, and impactful programs to life.
We are proud of what we have built, and so appreciate the engagement and contributions of members like you. We encourage you to get involved- join a committee or a chapter. Join us at a live or virtual event. Buy something at the NEWIEE store and show your spirit!
It is membership month after all – a time where we can celebrate all that we have achieved together and look forward to all the great things ahead!
