Join New England Women in Energy and the Environment This Year: Membership 2019

 In NEWIEE Blog

Spring is Renewal Time:
Empowering Women.
Advancing the Industry.

Spring is the time of renewal, and the perfect time of year for NEWIEE’s Annual Membership Drive.  NEWIEE is a unique and powerful place for women in the energy and environmental fields to connect with each other, get recognized for their contributions, and learn from others in the field. We have listened to each other’s needs and have evolved into a group with constantly expanding membership benefits.  If you haven’t seen them, take a moment to look at them now!

News at NEWIEE

New Chapters:  NEWIEE continues to grow, with two new chapters recently launching in Boston and Rhode Island and one kicking off in May in Maine! We are actively building our local chapters in Boston, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Western New England, and Maine – providing great opportunity to connect through smaller gatherings in between NEWIEE’s signature events.  If you want to be involved, please contact Jen Crawford at JCrawford@publicpolicylaw.com (Boston Chapter); Muriel Robinette at Muriel.Robinette@gza.com (New Hampshire Chapter); Shauna Beland at Shauna.Beland@energy.ri.gov (Rhode Island Chapter); Weezie Nuara at Mary.L.Nuara@dominionenergy.com (Western New England Chapter), or Carrie Gilbert at cgilbert@daymarkea.com (Maine Chapter).

Mentorship: NEWIEE’s Mentoring Program is starting its second year! To date, we have had more than 160 Mentor/Mentees participate in our Website Matchup Program with overwhelmingly positive feedback. To help us serve more members of NEWIEE, please consider signing up as a Mentor during our Round 3 Website Matchups scheduled to begin in June 2019.  For information on volunteer opportunities for these Programs, please contact Muriel Robinette at Muriel.Robinette@GZA.com.

Rising Professionals: In late 2018, we announced the launch of NEWIEE’s Rising Professionals. Group programming hopes to benefit women in our industry who are looking to hone skills or build relationships, whether they are still in college, new to the field, or simply want to expand their network. Group events will take place throughout the region. Please contact Sarah Adams at sadams@cmrpc.org if you have ideas for programs or would like to get involved!

NEWIEE on Campus: Under the umbrella of the Rising Professionals Group, NEWIEE On Campus coordinates outreach and panel discussions by NEWIEE members to college students at campuses throughout New England. If you know of a school that would like NEWIEE members to come share their career stories, or if you are a Rising Professional who would like to volunteer to talk to undergraduates about your career, please write to Sarah Adams at sadams@cmrpc.org.

Testimonials

“NEWIEE has been a hugely positive force in my professional life. There’s a spirit of ‘paying it forward’ among the membership that I find invigorating, and the example set by our speakers and leadership is inspiring!”

Cindy Jolicoeur
General Manager, C+C

“I feel so honored and happy to be part of such a distinguished group of people. I am learning a lot from every one of you, and I am enjoying every step we take together very much. I am looking forward to the days that I give support to the newcomers to NEWIEE as the way I’ve received it from all of you and the opportunities that I can contribute to NEWIEE’s growth.”

Gökçe Akın-Olçum
Economist, Environmental Defense Fund (EDF)

“We are very proud to be members of NEWIEE. There is a lot of work to be done to expand more opportunities to women at all levels of the energy industry – our supporting NEWIEE and our engagement with the organization will hopefully help in some small way.”

Mark D. Sylvia
Managing Director of Civic Engagement, BlueWave Solar

Upcoming Events

Membership Roundtable: In June, we look forward to our annual Membership Roundtable where we will seek Organizational member’s input on what is of most interest and value to you as members and we really look forward to your thoughts. NEWIEE membership continues to grow. At our annual meeting in November we heard from you about opportunities to promote diversity and expand our membership benefits to new types of organizations and professionals in the energy and environmental field (such as more non-profit, academic and trade organizations). That will be a focus for us in 2019.

NEWIEE’s Signature “Women Shaping the Agenda” Event: This summer, NEWIEE will host its fifth annual “Women Shaping the Agenda” (WSTA) event, featuring a panel discussion among leaders in the industry on a topic that intersects the energy and environmental sectors. If you are interested in serving on the WSTA planning committee, please contact Weezie Nuara at Mary.L.Nuara@dominionenergy.com.
