Women Shaping the Agenda (WSTA) Breaking Barriers and Building Resilience
Ten years ago, NEWIEE created our third signature event of the year, bringing together an esteemed group of women public sector leaders at MIT to discuss how women were shaping the agenda in Energy and the Environment. Since then, WSTA has become one of our leading events, featuring discussion, debate and diverse perspectives moving locations around New England.
As we gathered to brainstorm this year’s topic, we turned to member feedback from our 2023 event for direction. A few key themes arose:
- Our members wanted to hear more about our panelists’ professional journeys, their challenges to advancement in the energy & environment fields, the steps they took to overcome them, and the lessons learned along the way.
- They wanted to learn more about efforts to achieve our climate and carbon reduction goals and see more focus on environmental topics.
- They wanted more dialogue on how to fix the broken rung and diversify leadership.
To answer that call, we crafted this year’s event focused on the topic of Breaking Barriers and Building Resilience: The Importance of Diverse Perspectives in Achieving Climate Goals. We are pleased to have brought together an impressive panel of women leaders representing both the environmental and energy professions in the government, business and nonprofit sectors.
Our panelists include:
- Abigail Anthony, Commissioner, RI Public Utilities Commission
- Amanda Downey, Vice President of Strategy Development & Partnerships, NE, National Grid
- Zeyneb Magavi, Executive Director, HEET
- Krista Ostuno, President/CEO, Heavy Weight, Inc.
The discussion will be moderated by Janelle Woods-McNish, Chief Marketing & Diversity Officer, The Trustees of Reservations, and Emma Cimino, Deputy Commissioner of Environmental Quality, CT DEEP will deliver our keynote.
It’s sure to be an engaging and illuminating discussion- bring your passion and bring your questions! We’ll look forward to seeing you there!
