Empowering Women in Energy and Environment: The Impact of NEWIEE’s Mentorship Program

 In NEWIEE Blog

January is National Mentoring Month! One of NEWIEE’s core member benefits is our mentoring programming, which includes a Mentor Pairing Program and a Mentoring Circles Program. These two programs exemplify the transformative power of guiding relationships for women and other under represented groups in the energy and environmental sectors – whether those relationships are with a single mentor or with a circle of peer mentors, and their impact is summarized on page ten of NEWIEE’s 2024 Annual Report.

The Mentor Pairing Program matches each mentee with a professional who has relevant experience and interests to enhance the mentee’s professional development. In the matching process, career interests and professional goals are considered to ensure a fruitful relationship. Mentors and mentees commit to a structured yet flexible engagement over six months, including monthly meetings. Often, a mentor will introduce her mentee to other professionals for additional discussions, which ensures that participants not only receive guidance but also build lasting, supportive networks.

Lisa Frantzis, Aligning Energy Solutions hosted a recent mentorship dinner. In attendance in alphabetical by last name order: Martha Broad, MITEI; Grace Fletcher, MA DOER; Ariel Horowitz, US Department of Energy; Isabel Kaubisch, Total Energies Renewables USA; Aisha Khiyaty, Eversource; Emily Kostolansky, Xodus; Cassia Schuler, MassCEC; Margaret Slane, FSRI; Hannah Webb, Xodus

The benefits of participating in NEWIEE’s Mentorship Program are profound. Mentees gain invaluable insights, advice, and encouragement that can accelerate their career paths and increase their impact in the energy and environmental fields. Mentors, in turn, enjoy the opportunity to give back, enhance their leadership skills, and connect with the upcoming generation of industry leaders. Success stories indicate that NEWIEE’s mentoring programs shape leaders who are ready to tackle the challenges of tomorrow’s energy and environmental landscapes.

Personally, one of my favorite things to do for a rising professional is give them the gift of a NEWIEE membership so that they can access NEWIEE’s mentoring programming – with the opportunity to learn, grow, and lead – and the host of other benefits that NEWIEE membership offers based on our vibrant community of motivated professionals. If you are interested in giving the gift of a NEWIEE membership to a rising professional, there is an easy way to do that. Who do you know who could benefit from all that a NEWIEE membership offers in 2025?
