Moving the Needle: Social Marketing in Energy & Environment

August 17, 2021 @ 4:00 pm - 5:30 pm

Moving the Needle: Social Marketing in Energy & Environment

To deliver real impact, we often need to change perceptions, create relevance, build receptivity and ultimately reduce barriers and provide valued benefits to sustainable behavior change. Social marketing provides a road map to success.

Social Marketing is a distinct marketing discipline, focused on behavior change for social good — ones that will improve health, prevent injuries, protect the environment, contribute to communities and enhance financial wellbeing. Fundamental principles at the core of this practice have been used to help reduce tobacco use, decrease infant mortality, stop the spread of HIV/AIDS, make wearing bike helmets a social norm, and decrease littering.

Join us on August 17 for a discussion with globally recognized social marketing expert Nancy R. Lee, President of Social Marketing Services, Inc., and special consultant to C+C. Nancy has served as a leading consultant on hundreds of seminal social marketing campaigns, conducted social marketing workshops around the world, has authored a dozen books on the topic, and is a Teaching Associate at the University of Washington.

Nancy will provide an overview of social marketing principles and approaches and share examples from her upcoming book Success in Social Marketing: 100 Case Studies from Around the Globe, that illustrate how social marketing can spur behavior change, including ones relative to energy and environmental issues.

NEWIEE is proud to co-host this exciting event with SMANA, the Social Marketing Association of North America.

About NEWIEE

NEWIEE is a dynamic group of professional women working in energy and environmental fields, joining together to explore new solutions to today’s challenges while helping to cultivate female leadership and advancement through collaboration, inspiration and professional development.

The organization was founded in 2008, when a group of women came together to exchange ideas and experiences with others in energy and environmental professions. They envisioned a place where women could easily meet others facing similar technical, career, and work-life balance questions and benefit from each other’s experiences. With that vision in mind, NEWIEE was born.

Today, NEWIEE has grown to become a force for women’s leadership with more than 900 members across the region, supported by corporate and other sponsors who recognize the value of helping to raise women’s voice and stature in our fields through professional development, inspiration, leadership and community.
