SUMMARY:NEWIEE Reads Diversifying Power - Why We Need Antiracist\, Feminist Leadership on Climate and Energy with author\, Jennie C. Stephens
DESCRIPTION:On January 26 at 5PM\, NEWIEE will host Jennie C. Stephens\, author of “Diversifying Power – Why We Need Antiracist\, Feminist Leadership on Climate and Energy”. Stephens will discuss the themes of “Diversifying Power” and answer your questions about the book. Reading the book is not a pre-requisite for attending this book talk. You will gain resourceful insights either way. \nEvent registrants will receive a code for 20% off the book from Island Press! \n  \nAbout The Author\nJennie C. Stephens is the Dean’s Professor of Sustainability Science and Policy and Director of Northeastern University’s School of Public Policy and Urban Affairs in Boston. Her research\, teaching\, and advocacy focus on social and political innovation in the transformation away from fossil fuels to a more just and equitable renewable-based future including gender diversity\, energy democracy\, and energy justice. \nBefore Northeastern\, Professor Stephens was on the faculty at the University of Vermont (2014-2016) and Clark University (2005-2014). She earned her PhD at Caltech in environmental science & engineering and her BA at Harvard in environmental science & public policy.\nwww.jenniecstephens.com @jenniecstephens \n  \nAbout The Book\nIn “Diversifying Power”\, energy expert Jennie Stephens argues that the key to effectively addressing the climate crisis is diversifying leadership so that antiracist\, feminist priorities are central. Stephens examines climate and energy leadership related to job creation and economic justice\, health and nutrition\, and housing and transportation. She explains why we need to reclaim and restructure climate and energy systems so policies are explicitly linked to social\, economic\, and racial justices. \nDiversifying Power shows that anyone working on issues related to energy or climate (directly or indirectly) can leverage the power of collective action. The work to shift away from an extractive\, oppressive energy system has already begun. By highlighting the creative individuals and organizations making change happen\, Diversifying Power provides inspiration and encourages action on climate and energy justice. \n  \nAbout The Publisher\nFounded in 1984\, Island Press’ mission is to provide the best ideas and information to those seeking to understand and protect the environment and create solutions to its complex problems. \n\n	\n\n\n	\n\n	\n\n\n \n\n	\n\n\n	\n Register Here\n\n	\n\n\n	\n\n\n \n\n \n\n\n\n	\n	Cohosted with:
