SUMMARY:NECEC's Energy Storage in the Northeast: Past\, Present\, and Future
DESCRIPTION:Across the Northeast\, states have been exploring how energy storage can help them reach their clean energy and climate goals. From MassCEC and the Massachusetts Department of Energy Resources’ (DOER) Advancing Commonwealth Energy Storage to similar programs in Vermont\, Maine\, and Connecticut\, Northeast states are proving that storage will be a key part of the energy system of the future. NECEC is convening industry leaders and policy experts for an event on May 12 to review what we’ve learned from efforts to deploy energy storage projects and how we can encourage future growth in the Northeast storage market. This event will explore which energy storage demonstration projects in the Northeast were most successful and where the region’s storage market is headed.

SUMMARY:NECA's Lessons learned from Texas
DESCRIPTION:Lessons learned from Texas: what can we do to better weather the extreme weather? \n1:00 to 2:30 pm (Panel discussion from 1 to 2 and “hang around the podium” from 2 to 2:30) \nTopics for discussion: \n\nIs there a wholesale power market design – energy-only with scarcity or energy plus capacity or centrally planned markets – that can more effectively manage the challenges posed by unexpected events  and weather-driven  extreme episodes on the electricity system?\nWhat aspects of market design– incentives or requirements – could improve resilience of the electricity market?\nDo we need to reform planning to align with market changes and such extreme weather events?\nFinally\, are we at a  cross-roads with respect to the interplay of wholesale and retail market design?\n\nSpeaker (with more to come): \nPeter Cramton\, Professor of Economics\, University of Cologne and the University of Maryland (Emeritus since 2018)\, (and former Director of the Board of ERCOT)

SUMMARY:NECEC's Connecting Regions on the Road to COP26: Lessons from the North Sea
DESCRIPTION:NECEC is excited to announce a virtual event series as part of its Emerging Trend Series\, Connecting Regions on the Road to COP26\, sponsored by National Grid\, a Principal Partner for COP26. \nTo meet the ambitious carbon reduction goals needed to stay on a well below 2-degree pathway\, collaboration will be key. Join us for this first virtual event to hear a keynote on what to expect on the ‘Road to COP26’ this November and what is needed to achieve the 2030 targets that will ensure we are on a path to net zero by 2050. Hear a panel of experts share lessons learned from scaling the offshore wind industry in the UK and integrating this resource into the grid\, and discuss how to translate these practices to scale offshore wind in the Northeast U.S.
