SUMMARY:EBC's Site Remediation and Redevelopment Webinar
DESCRIPTION:EBC Site Remediation and Redevelopment Webinar: Beneficial Use Determinations – An Effective (but underutilized?) Tool \nThis EBC Site Remediation and Redevelopment webinar will focus on Beneficial Use Determinations (BUD) and their efficacy and use in spurring redevelopment\, minimizing waste\, and improving environmental conditions. \nMany redevelopment projects generate waste streams that require careful management\, processing\, and potentially costly disposal. The BUD risk assessment guidance provides a framework for evaluating potential risk\, placement or processing of secondary materials\, and material reuse. This webinar will focus on the process\, risk assessment methods and standards (are they too low/restrictive?)\, project cost savings\, and successful case studies where the use of BUDs was critical to redevelopment and project success. The program will also include presentations from the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MASS DEP) (INVITED) on their perspective of the BUD process and use. \nA robust panel discussion with the audience will conclude the webinar.

SUMMARY:C3E's Financing the Clean Economy
DESCRIPTION:Clean energy investment is critical to meeting the United States’ goals of 100 percent carbon-free electricity by 2035 and net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Financing of clean energy can rely on a variety of investment sources\, including grants\, tax credits\, and institutional investors ranging from venture capitalists to utilities. Significant investment in the space is occurring\, including maturing clean energy technologies\, shifting policies and incentive programs on the federal and state levels\, and increased investor focus on ESG initiatives. \nThis webinar will feature recent U.S. C3E Award recipients and investors who finance the energy transition\, Mira Inbar from ArcTern Ventures\, Britta von Oesen from CohnReznick Capital\, and Libby Wayman from Breakthrough Energy Ventures. They will discuss a range of topics including the evolving ecosystem of climate finance\, the scaling of technologies\, and consideration for early-stage to late-stage investments.

DESCRIPTION:In the morning session\, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) will provide an up-to-the-minute report on efforts in the US Senate to secure funding to address climate resiliency\, with a focus on topics of particular interest to New England. Congressman Chris Pappas (D-NH-1)\, a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure\, has been invited to give an update on the House’s efforts to move a major infrastructure bill into law. The next presenters will describe the latest in climate modeling tools\, projected climate conditions and climate hazards\, and how these “reasonably foreseeable” future conditions are changing the legal standards for the design and construction of new buildings and infrastructure as well as the renovation or replacement of existing structures. Other experts will discuss how the insurance and finance industries are responding to the ever-improving modeling and science in terms of understanding and planning for climate risk\, and how droughts and other climate impacts in other parts of the country and the world are starting to drive migration patterns that are already bringing new residents to New England.
