Expanding NEWIEE’s Mentorship Offerings One Peer Circle at a Time

 In NEWIEE Blog

As an organization working hard to lift up those underrepresented in the energy and environmental fields, NEWIEE continually asks itself and its members – what more can we do to build a network of support around those in our community? A concept we keep coming back to is one that expands NEWIEE’s mentorship program to offer more peer-to-peer mentoring opportunities. We hear this from our members too. NEWIEE’s mentorship program, which matches mentors with mentees for a six-month period, continues to rank among NEWIEE’s most popular member benefits, and, according to our annual surveys, members are looking for more!

To answer the call, NEWIEE has announced plans to launch a members-only peer circles program this Fall. The program is intended to provide a platform for matching groups of individuals in the energy and environmental fields, much like the mentor-mentee matchup process, giving them the opportunity to learn from, connect with, and support each other through discussions and activities. The program will be open to members of all career types and career stages.

Those interested in participating in the peer circles program will fill out a survey providing information on what they are looking to gain through the program and what types of activities interest them. NEWIEE will then match groups of individuals based on their preferences for a six-month experience driven by those in the peer circle. We are hoping for robust participation and, more important, a valuable and rewarding experience for our members. We cannot wait to roll out the program – keep an eye out for more information this Fall!
