EBC’s 3rd Annual NE Climate Change and Resiliency Summit – Morning Session
In the morning session, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI) will provide an up-to-the-minute report on efforts in the US Senate to secure funding to address climate resiliency, with a focus on topics of particular interest to New England. Congressman Chris Pappas (D-NH-1), a member of the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure, has been invited to give an update on the House’s efforts to move a major infrastructure bill into law. The next presenters will describe the latest in climate modeling tools, projected climate conditions and climate hazards, and how these “reasonably foreseeable” future conditions are changing the legal standards for the design and construction of new buildings and infrastructure as well as the renovation or replacement of existing structures. Other experts will discuss how the insurance and finance industries are responding to the ever-improving modeling and science in terms of understanding and planning for climate risk, and how droughts and other climate impacts in other parts of the country and the world are starting to drive migration patterns that are already bringing new residents to New England.
