DEI Committee: Salary Negotiation Workshop and Networking

For Energy Awareness Month, NEWIEE’s DEI Committee and the Greater Boston Chapter of the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) will be hosting a Salary Negotiation Workshop and Networking event at Roxbury Community College in Boston, MA.
Many professionals, especially women and people of color, face unique challenges when negotiating compensation. The workshop will equip participants with the knowledge, strategies, and confidence needed to advocate for value and secure fair compensation.

Ayanna Polk
Director of Communications
MassINC
Ayanna Polk is the Director of Communications at MassINC, where she leads strategic communications for an organization focused on public policy research, polling, journalism, and civic engagement in Massachusetts. Her work sits at the intersection of communications and policy, translating complex research and public issues into accessible, engaging stories that help people understand how policy decisions affect their communities and everyday lives.
Before joining MassINC, Ayanna served in several communications and external engagement roles with the City of Boston, including with the Mayor’s Office of Women’s Advancement and the Equity and Inclusion Cabinet. Her work focused on turning policy priorities into programs, partnerships, and resources that residents could directly access. This included leading the City’s partnership with the Boston Women’s Workforce Council to address gender and racial wage gaps across Greater Boston. She also led Boston’s AAUW Work Smart salary negotiation initiative, helping ensure residents had the tools, information, and confidence to advocate for their value in the workplace. Together, these efforts reflected a central theme of her work: connecting policy and systems-level change with practical programs that make those commitments real in people’s lives.
Throughout her career, Ayanna has used communications as a tool to connect people with policy, resources, and opportunities. She also brings extensive community leadership experience through organizations including the NAACP, Mass NOW, and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She is the first Black woman to chair the Greater Boston International Women’s Day Breakfast and holds a bachelor’s degree in Literature from Stockton University.
