SUMMARY:NECA's Meet Meredith Angwin
DESCRIPTION:Meet Meredith Angwin\, Author of Shorting the Grid: The Hidden Fragility of Our Electric Grid\nNECA’s Young Professionals Committee invites everyone to a special virtual event featuring Meredith Angwin\, energy analyst and author of Shorting the Grid: The Hidden Fragility of Our Electric Grid. You don’t have to read the book to benefit from a discussion with this dynamic author\, but it can be easily purchased on the usual book purchasing sites or directly through Meredith. And a few of her books will be raffled off during the program! \nAs a working chemist\, Meredith headed projects that lowered pollution and increased reliability on the electric grid. Her work included pollution control for nitrogen oxides in gas-fired combustion turbines\, and corrosion control in geothermal and nuclear systems. She was one of the first women to be a project manager at the Electric Power Research Institute. She led projects in renewable and nuclear energy. In the past ten years\, she began to study and take part in grid oversight and governance. For four years\, she served on the Coordinating Committee for the Consumer Liaison Group associated with ISO-NE\, her local grid operator. \nModerators:\nJohn Malloy III\, Manager\, StoneTurn\nMike Vittiglio\, Project Manager\, Navisun LLC\n(Young Professionals Committee Co-Chairs)

SUMMARY:WEN's I am the Master of my Fate
DESCRIPTION:Are Women Best Equipped to Lead the Energy Transition? \nAt WEN’s national conference in Forth Worth\, Jennifer explained why the oil and gas industry is currently living through an existential crisis – and\, posited that women are best equipped to lead us through it. Join WEN in Boston to dive deeper into challenges that surround the energy transition and tips (for women and men!) on navigating them within our own industries. \nThere is no market consensus on winning technologies for the hardest to abate sectors\, meanwhile even the ‘low hanging fruit’ comes with difficult implementation challenges. Importantly\, it all requires tremendous levels of spending and collaboration; solutions will likely test the limits of electrification\, local regulations\, and internal conflict. Where are we headed and how do we steer the ship?
