Job Title: Membership Community and Communications Manager, New England Women in Energy and the Environment

Job Summary:

The Membership Community & Communications Manager will be a key member of NEWIEE’s team, responsible for implementing membership support and engagement, communications strategy, programming support and administrative coordination. This role blends strategic thinking with hands-on execution, requiring exceptional writing and communications skills, top-notch organization and project management, and the ability to manage volunteers and support day-to-day operations. The ideal candidate is a proactive communicator and detail-oriented individual. This role ensures smooth operations across internal systems, supports committees and volunteers, manages member communications and database administration, and coordinates logistics for NEWIEE programs. The Manager will report to the Executive Director and work closely with the Board of Directors and volunteers to implement strategic priorities and maintain operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

Membership Community Management & Operations

  • Provide excellent member services, as a primary point of contact for member inquiries and support.
  • Support the Membership Committee and Executive Director with outreach and stewardship, and implement strategies to support members through engagement, and retention.
  • Oversee member onboarding, renewals, and management of the membership database and system, developing member communications campaigns and automations.
  • Analyze membership trends and prepare reports.
  • Monitor and manage shared inboxes and email distribution lists, and internal SharePoint file organization and document retention, and administer NEWIEE’s CRM and membership database (NEON CRM) to ensure accurate membership data and records.

Communications

  • Maintain and update email templates in NEON and email marketing platforms (MailChimp), ensuring communications reflect current branding and messaging.
  • Implement digital communications and social media calendar. This includes creating and managing email campaigns (e.g., event invites, updates), maintaining audience lists and segment communications based on membership status and ensuring timely delivery of routine communications (e.g., newsletters, event follow-ups), and developing and posting to NEWIEE’s social media accounts.
  • Lead the management of volunteers of NEWIEE’s Website Committee and Jobs Board Committee and collaborate with NEWIEE’s committee volunteers to promote events, initiatives, and impact stories.
  • Ensure consistent branding and messaging across all channels and materials.

Event & Program Support

  • Create and manage program registrations (Currently via Eventbrite and NEON)
  • Coordinate logistics for virtual and small-scale in-person programming events, including venue, catering, AV, and materials, in partnership with program volunteers.
  • Support Signature Events (Gala, WSTA, Annual Meeting) with sponsor tracking, registration, and communications, and coordination with NEWIEE’s event planner.
  • Manage record keeping of attendee lists and post-event follow-up (surveys, thank-you emails, data syncing).

Volunteer Management & Collaboration

  • Coordinate with committee chairs to prepare agendas and materials as needed.
  • Provide administrative support for volunteer committee meetings, events, and programs, including scheduling, logistics, and meeting documentation.
  • Support volunteers who support events, programs, and outreach efforts and ensure volunteers are aligned with NEWIEE’s mission and values.
  • Supervise interns or contractors as needed.
  • Represent NEWIEE at events and networking opportunities.
  • Work closely with the Executive Director, the NEWIEE Board of Directors and volunteer leadership to deliver on NEWIEE’s organizational goals.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • 3-5 years of experience in nonprofit administration, membership management, communications, or equivalent role
  • Strong organizational and project management skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, SharePoint, Eventbrite, and CRM systems (NEON preferred)
  • Experience with email marketing platforms (e.g., Mailchimp)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Ability to create and schedule social media content across platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook) using standard tools and track basic engagement metrics and report on what’s working to inform future content decisions
  • Capacity to learn NEWIEE’s brand voice and adapt messaging for different audiences and channels

Work Environment:

  • Hybrid: Remote daily work with some required in-person events and meetings.
  • This is a New England-based position with remote work options and flexible hours. Travel throughout New England to events and meetings is required, including attendance at some events and meetings outside of normal business hours (some evenings; infrequently weekends). All travel is subject to reimbursement by NEWIEE.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary range: $50,000 to $70,000, based on experience and qualifications.
